'Thinking Historically about Epidemic Disease: From the Black Death to Spanish Flu and AIDS' at Dollar Tree Rm., Brock Commons

Wednesday, 23 October, 2019

|

Epidemics are not solely, or even mostly, medical events. Whether it's an outbreak of plague in the Middle Ages or influenza in the twentieth century, these were social events that occurred in particular historical contexts. Christian McMillen, professor of history at UVA, will explore how understanding the pasts of various epidemics can help us understand their futures.
