The VCU Rice Rivers Center is hosting an opportunity for you... Oyster Shell Bagging

Since 2013, the VCU Rice Rivers Center has facilitated the collection of waste oyster shells from restaurants and returned them to the Virginia portion of the Chesapeake Bay to help restore wild oyster populations, improve water quality and provide new fish habitat.  You can help these efforts by joining the Virginia Oyster Shell Recycling Program on Saturday, February 23rd as they work to bag the collected shells.  These shells will then be recycled and seeded with oyster larvae and placed on sanctuary reefs in Virginia Rivers to mitigate damage done by increased water pollution, disease, habitat loss and historic over-harvesting in the Chesapeake Bay.

Bring a snack, water, and wear closed toe shoes. Children under 18 are permitted if accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. For more details and to sign up, please use this link.
