Bio-Intensive Mini-Farming & Crop Planning

How do you sustainably grow a complete diet in a small space and get the food to the table using the least fossil fuel? In this session learn to use the 8 points of Jeavon's GROW BIOINTENSIVE (deep soil preparation, use of compost, close plant spacing, companion planting, carbon-efficient crops, calorie-efficient crops, use of open-pollinated seeds, and the whole system) to maintain a mini-farm/homestead or community garden plots. Get hands-on practice in how to build a crop rotation plan that uses cover crops to fulfill all compost needs and learn which food crops to grow in order to really feed yourself and keep a small footprint on the earth.

What to bring: Paper/pen for class notes, brown-bag lunch for informal lunch with Urban Ag Fellows and Instructor.
